Simulation Review Paper on Elijah Heart Center

Elijah Heart Center (EHC), is a healthcare organization focused on cardiac health. The facility is equipped to handle the full spectrum of cardiovascular services for physicians and patients. The hospital also provides outpatient services for less invasive procedures and clinical care. Although the organization’s patient volume is stable and increasing in volume rapidly, there is a deficit in regards to profitability. As the senior financial consultant, I will present plans for short term and long term goals if needed. I will also recommend specific measures to modernize the hospital and provide specific plans for hospital expansion. Financial Portfolio Elijah Heart Center has managed to stay in operation due to excellent patient services. In the process of great patient care, poor financial decisions have been made in the past that now hinder the profitable spectrum of the organization. Research data revealed that issues that have affected this organization’s financial budget. The data revealed that (EHC) gave large discounts to manage care companies. The nursing staff was affected because higher wages were paid to outside agencies who supplied contract nurses. Of course when dealing with government health funded insurance carriers such as Medicare, the reimbursement levels are well below budget standards. Insurance rates are not current and based on past medical costs which stunts the financial growth of the hospital. Liabilities have increased and ? of the liabilities are related to accounts payable. The hospital equipment will need replacement soon due to extensive usage. Another issue is the constant placement of unused equipment in patient’s rooms. This causes conflict because if the equipment is placed in the patient’s room, it is considered is supposed to be charged to the patient. Phase 1 Capital Shortage Bridging a working capital shortage is one of the strategies that can help increase the hospital’s revenue if a true concrete plan can be formulated. Once all data was received, suggestion from the Executive Board was taken into consideration before any final decision was to be made. The main focus to be considered while bringing forth a strategic plan, is to understand the healthcare business as a whole. According to Baker and Baker (2009), The health care industry is a service industry. It may have inventories of medical supplies and drugs, but those inventories are necessary to service delivery, not manufacturing functions. With this information in mind, two specific cost cutting options were chosen geared toward staffing and patient care. The first option addressed was to decrease the staff hired from outside sources. Nursing and other employees who were hired via contracts worked for higher rates of pay. This rate is normally double the amount of the staff employee. Depending on the specific position and pay grade, large quantities of contract workers drains the current financial budget and reserves. The goal being strived for is the ability to take money being paid out to contract workers, and use it to hire staff at a reasonable rage of hire. This leads into the second option that was chosen. Changing the skill mix is a great strategy to help retain employees, add to their skills to make them more of an asset, and increase the employee morale. It is known that without contract staff to supplement nursing the strain of patient care would increase. That is why it is necessary to utilize the staff already in house that known the routine to be open to learning more skills. The asset to this strategy is that the nurses who are hired for full time status will enter an organization that promotes advanced clinical learning. The projected outcome of this plan is a net savings of at least 90% the first year, and an increase of financial savings by the second net year. Loan Options A decision in regards to loan options is a strategic method that can be harmful to the company deficit if not chosen correctly. After consulting with the executive team, the decision to select a refurbished loan with a lower interest rate of 9% was better than selecting a new loan with an interest rate of 9. 5%. Having the option to refinance a new loan would not be as lucrative or flexible in the first years of loan repayment. Outcome of Decision The outcome of these two decisions showed major improvements among the internal/external working environment as well as decreased overloaded expenses. The loan (option 2), was the best choice @ $1,500. 000, with a low interest rate of 9. 00%. The interest rate is lower than loan (option 1), at 9. 45% interest. The Monthly payments of $131. 177 versus $131. 490 was also appealing. The cost cutting strategies worked for (EHC) and improvement was immediately seen. Phase 2 Funding Options for Equipment Acquisitions The working capital shortfall is now under control at (EHC). With the increased patient flow, the technological aspects of the hospital must now be addressed. After meeting with the Board of Directors, Gilbert Sanchez stated the desire to purchase medical equipment to continue to provide excellent care to clients. The option was given after consultation to either buy new or refurbished medical equipment by acquiring a loan, or acquiring the equipment on lease (capital or operating). In large healthcare organizations, there is constant competition between departments for funding request for new equipment and supplies. According to Baker and Baker (2009), the reason for new equipment is needed must be clearly stated. The acquisition cost must be a reasonable figure that contains all appropriate specifications. The number of years useful life that can be reasonably extended from the equipment is also an important assumption. Mr. Sanchez provided all the necessary information needed. A different and daring approach was used to purchase the equipment needed for the hospital. The High Speed CT Scanner, X-Ray Machine and Ultrasound were all purchased on a Refurbished Equipment Loan. The optimal choice was to purchase the High Speed CT Scanner on a Refurbished Equipment Loan, the X-Ray Machine on a Capital Lease. The choice made for this issue was concrete. The most cost efficient method was used to revamp the equipment in use at the present time. The refurbished loan amount was purchased at a 9 % interest rate. When checking the balance sheet, the total assets and total liabilities were the same at $230. 621. Phase 3 Options for Capital Expansion Now that the capital shortage and equipment acquisition were addressed and the financial improvement of the hospital is rising, there is now a need for added space. The executive committee have plans to add 100 new private rooms as well as consider the expansion other departments such as surgical suites, endoscopy, surgical suites, and women’s service. Other expansions include 5 operating suites along with seven Cardiac Catheterization Labs. Also, twenty critical care patient rooms were also on the list to be added. The options available for selection included, Tax-Exempt Revenue Bonds, HUD 343 Loan Insurance Program and Private Bank Funding. I chose Private Bank Funding. The interest rate is slightly higher than the other options but the Net Present Value (NPV) was better than the total cost of the project. The total cost was $75,000 and the (NPV) came to $180. 250. According to Baker and Baker (2009), the Net Present Value, is a discounted cash flow method. It is based on cash flows in that it takes all the cash (incoming and outgoing) into account over the life of the equipment over this life of the equipment ( or if applicable, over the life of the relevant project). The strategic collaboration between the Board Executives and myself resulted in a great outcome, bringing overall improvement to the organization. I learned the importance of financial budgeting and streamlining with the focus on staff and patient satisfaction. I honestly would not change my decision on this simulation. I feel confident in my decisions as the consultant. I will take what I have learned from this assignment and apply the methods used to maintain a competent financial budget as well as monitor and maintain adequate employee staffing ratios.

It was just a holiday, but it changed my life Holidays can be good for your health. You lie on a beach and relax, and tensions disappear. But sometimes a holiday can change your life completely, which is what happened 2 years ago to Victoria Smith and Sally Gook. Victoria Smith 6 years ago, was working as a manager at Next, a British chain store. Then she went on holiday to Bomeo.. † It was a working holiday†, said Victoria, â€Å"where you could study orang-utans in the wild- I have always been interested in apes, so I thought it would be fun†.The holiday was wonderful, and when Victoria came home she found it very difficult to return to her old life. â€Å"Suddenly the problems in the store just seemed so trivial. Although everybody told her she was mad. she decided to go back to university and study biology. 4 years later she became a chimpanzee keeper. for the last 2 years Victoria has been working at monkey world, a centre in south-west england which looks af ter apes which have been ill-treated. Many have been rescued from laboratories and circuses all over the world. She works long hours, and the pay isn't very good, but she loves it. Apes are like a big family, each with their own personality'. ‘I'm really happy now. Since I started working here I feel that I've been doing something important, not just wasting my life'. Sally Gook wakes up every morning to a deep blue sky and blazing sun. For the last 2 years she has been living on the tiny Greek island of Lipsi, which is only 16 square km in size and has a population of just 650. But until a few years ago she lived in Lonndon. ‘I was working for American Express and I had to get up very early every morning, often in horrible weather, and get a train and the tube to work. Then one day she and a friend decided they needed a relaxing holiday, and they came to Lipsi. ‘I loved it'- the people, the mountains, the sun, and the delicious food. Suddenly I knew there was a dif ferent which has organized her holiday. Since then she has been living on Lipsi and working as a tourist guide. Her boyfriend, who is Greek, is a farmer. Sally said, I've only been back to London once, and I can't imagine ever living there again'. High School Relfective Essay Essay

When I think about the years that I’ve spent in high school I feel like I am back to those times again. I never thought that the years would go by so quickly, but as fast as it was I still learned a lot from the experiences I had. There were times when I didn’t make anything for my self, and times when I felt like I could do anything. As much as I hated some of the things I went through in high school, I’m glad they happened because without them I wouldn’t me who I am right now. I always wanted to be someone who could excel at everything. I was always jealous of people like that; I admired them for their perseverance. As much as I tried I always seemed to be average at most of the things that I did. Over this summer I had time to get my priorities straight. The fact that this is my last year, sort of scared me into getting my act together and doing what needs to be done. I am the slacker no more. I will not procrastinate. I am more than an average student. I recently realized that I have changed a substantial amount since my arrival at BVH. When I first got here, I was shy. When I made friends I became a chameleon. What they did, I did. What they wore, I wore. That went on until I became familiar with the cruel world of teenage guys. Because I was like them, I was called out when a speck of originality was shown. Once I started being myself, I think I got made fun of more than I ever had. All of that verbal abuse hit me hard because I had never experienced it before. Within my two first years, I almost had the hide of a rhino. I had grown apart from the people who were my â€Å"best friends† and decided to wait for people who could accept me for who I am so that I didn’t have to be what I’m not. I think the early years of high school are where you figure out what kind of person you want to be. It being my last year, I know who I am right now and who I want to be as an adult. All of the troubles I went through have made me who I am today. The strength that I’ve gained from that is part of me, and as hard as it was for me I am glad that I had those experiences. School is very hard. Academically and socially, you go through so many different feelings and experience. For a lot of us,stressful is the one word that describes it. Some of us think of it as fun, others are bored, or depressed. There are so many different words to describe ones feelings on school. For me it was awesome, and I am very thankful for all the experience I had.

However, it was quite challenging since all markets were unique (Martincich Retrieved from http://protectedpdf.iese.edu/descargas/M-663-E-1101156.pdf). The attempt to export jewelry to Geneva proved to be very challenging. A former employee had started producing similar products and selling them without his consent. He had a lot of emphasis on having stalls selling his products only as an attempt to reduce the copying of his designs. He did not perform a deep market research in Geneva and hence had no insight on the market. After his failure in Geneva, he decided to engage a marketer who would sell his products in other countries. He hoped that a good marketer who understood the market would provide a good link to many customers in other countries. However, he remained rigid on maintaining the prestige and

Accounting #1 - Essay Example Cost accounting is correlated with managerial accounting work, since it is highly use in the preparation of managerial accounting work. The objectives of managerial accounting are to prepare information in order to optimize the firm’s value and production activity. The reports utilize in managerial accounting include comparing actual results with plans or benchmark prepared at the beginning of the accounting cycle. Other reports include indicators such as orders received, order backlog, capacity utilization, and sales (Garrison, et al., p.4). Some of the main functions of managerial accounting are planning, directing & motivating, controlling, evaluating year end results and closure of the planning and control cycle. Managerial accounting differs from financial accounting in the time scope. Financial accounting deals with historical events, while managerial accounting places emphasis on the future. Managerial accounting does not follow the general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) (Moore & Jaedicke, 1972). The reports prepared by managerial accountants must be timely and relevant so that the users of this information can make decision based on what is occurring or the projection of what may occur. The main users of the work perform by managerial accountants are the executive management team of a company. Just-in-time inventory management is a philosophy of manufacturing based on planned elimination of all waste and on continuous improvements of productivity (Ashland). Companies order the exact amount of material needed for a production run and the reorder point occurs when the inventory runs out. Precision and timeliness is necessary so that the company does not run out of raw materials or inventory needed to continue to operate. The business world in the 21st century is very competitive and business owners can

Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 1

Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five - Essay Example The focus on Billy’s self-awareness creates a crucial moment in his character development. This discovery paves the way for Billy to spread the Tralfamadorian gospel on earth. His recognition of the effect of Febs on his psyche demonstrates a great deal of self-awareness. The interaction of Billy and the historian in chapter nine demonstrates the interchangeable nature of history and fiction. Despite his spurious stories of time travel and alien abduction, it is possible that Billy had been a soldier in World War II. My understanding of reality is confused by the things that Billy sees when he visits the bookstore in Times Square. There are books by Kilgore Trout in the store’s window. The books talk about aliens abducting a man. This is the most difficult thing to understand in this novel because I am left to wonder whether it a coincidence that Billy looks at the Trout book before he talks about his experience that is similar to what the book describes. In the last chapter, the novel suggests that a bird-talk makes as much sense as the talk of anyone about war. The problem of dignity returns. Vonnegut talks about the equalizing power of death that brings dignity at high price. He shows how the war has made the idea of climax

The Libor Scandal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

The Libor Scandal - Essay Example The agent then gets rid of the lowest and highest 25 percent of those submissions and the rest are averaged to determine how much the Libor will be. Libor can be said to be very critical as a global benchmark for the short-term interest rates as it is calculated for different maturities and different currencies (Hall 2013). Libor has an effect on global borrowing since here are so many banks worldwide that use it as a base rate to set interest rates towards their customers and the corporate loans. There are hundreds of dollars in trillions in form of loans and securities that have a link to labor. The securities and loans are inclusive of home loans and auto loans. If labor rises then the rates and payments made on loans also increase and when labor falls, they fall. In addition, labor is used for a range of retail products like mortgages and loans given in collages. Labor is also used as the means of settling interest rates contracts in the major world exchanges (Varriale 2012). There is a potentiality that traders manipulated Libor. Financial institutions including Barclays have been under investigations for being suspected of manipulating labor rate. The financial institutions being suspected are inclusive of those in the UK, United States, Japan, and Canada. The first time that Barclays was suspected for manipulating Libor was in 2005. The aim of manipulation of labor was to ensure that the traders of the bank make high profits that are boosted by the base rate, which is the labor rate. During that time, the traders were able to ask the Barclays employees to give figures that in turn would benefit traders and not the rates that bank would pay in order to borrow money. However, there were traders who were able to coordinate with other banks to change the rate too. In this period, Libor maneuvered downward and upward based on the position

Consumer influence on Companys Production Process Essay - 23

Consumer influence on Companys Production Process - Essay Example This act of consumers contributing their ideas in the production process is what is referred to in this article as co-production. Some researchers refer to co-creation and co-production as almost meaning the same thing (Lusch & Obrien, 2006). This essay is going to be aimed at summarizing the trend that is now taking place in production processes. Consumers have identified that they need to play a role throughout the production process from conception of a product, its production, marketing, to final consumption stage. Marketers have also realized the need to incorporate the other players in co-production with examples being evidenced by the number of engagement marketers have with consumers. The example is the case of Kao Corporation, the makers of Ban deodorant, with an attempt to capture the input from customers in the marketing process, held a contest asking girls and young women to create print advertisements that would resonate with other consumers (Vranica, 2005). It is reported that the contest drew thousands of entries, thereby adding to the fact that consumers are willing to participate in the product marketing. This trend where collaboration exists between producers and consumers has resulted in the struggle to control the product. Producers are now in a dilemma on how, and how much of their production should be left to the manipulation by consumers. They already know that consumers are continuously becoming a force to reckon with in production process and ignoring them is just like coating a disaster. Through virtual communities, consumers have continued to analyze products thoroughly resulting in a success or complete flop of the same depending on whether the product meets their expectations or not.

The English Barrier Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The English Barrier - Essay Example Due to this the import of immigrants is a contributing factor is a heavy offset. Therefore, near perfect accents will be very necessary for a non-native speaker to focus on work-related dealings. Similarly due to the internet burst, business dealing have also been brought to one’s home, free video calling and voice chats now mean that only emails will not be the form of business meetings, hence the need of speaking the language well. All of these factors coupled with more are explicitly explained in this research paper, joined along with personal opinion on the issue (Exforsys Inc, 2007). THESIS Before an opinion is laid out that whether it is necessary to have perfection in speaking of the English language, especially when the person learning will have to deal with people who are also speaking English as a non-native language, one has to skim through the reasons for learning English as a secondary language. The first and foremost being that of getting a job in an English spea king country, also if your interaction is with people who have English as their mother tongue. The second reason; being that of working in an environment where English dominates the working culture even if the mother tongue is not English. Also, the fact cannot be negated that most of the business done in any part of the world has something to do with countries other than yours, therefore a common language for correspondence is more often than not English and hence the need to learn the language is necessary. Similarly as mentioned before, the advent of technology has ensured that English governs the world as no other language ever has done in the history of mankind. Some experts go on record to claim that this is now the king of languages, and may never be dethroned. Some cynics also foresee it as not the case, since some major socio-political issues in the world may deem a universal language unnecessary. All these factors aside, the use of English language for the common man is fa st turning out to be the tool needed for making big bucks in this ever drowning economy of the world (Mydans, 2007). OPINION There are always two faces to a coin, both opposite and totally different. Similarly this topic constitutes a debate about the proficiency of oral English, especially when the people one has to talk to are not well versed with the English language. Many people think that it is unnecessary for a person to be proficient in English speaking skills as there is no such need for them when conversing or corresponding with a person whose native language is not English. I tend to disagree with the hypothesis. There are many reasons to my biasness with this topic. First of them being, the level of professionalism is a key factor in inducing people to do work or business with you. An aura of professionalism oozes out for the person in front of you to see and admire. Such will be the effect that half your problems will be solved. Another major issue that is solved when on e is proficient in speaking English is that; at times, is very unfamiliar with the language, as it is his second language. Therefore one has to change gears in his vocabulary to come to a lower level, this feat can only be performed if you are well-versed in the language, not only in reading and writing but also in speaking. Many people take good

Culver City Essay Example for Free

Culver City Essay Because of the changes that have taken place in the nursing home industry throughout the past decade, service area competitor analyses have become an increasingly important aspect of environmental analysis. The process of service area competitor analysis involves first of all an identification of the service category for analysis. It then moves on to include identifying of competitors, determining the strengths and weaknesses of rivals, and anticipating their moves based on the analysis of the data collected. The service area selected for this particular analysis is the Culver City nursing home industry. The market for nursing home care in Culver City, California is changing rapidly and has been considered a buyer’s market for specialty care. The population of Culver City in relation to the number of senior citizens is an important consideration in the decision to enter the nursing home market in this city. The number of persons each nursing home usually takes is in the range of 80 to 85% of its carrying capacity (Pandya, 2001). One must not forget that â€Å"the demand for nursing home care [is] driven by the availability of financing† (Willging, 2003). Also notable is that approximately 36% of seniors have been financing nursing-home care out of pocket (2001). In carrying out a service area competitor analysis upon this city, it is necessary to take a look at such aspects as its financial and economic situation, the demographics, and the trends that might derive from them. It will also be necessary to assess the strategies being pursued by the nursing homes that service the area and the consumer reaction to these policies. According to the analysis of the Culver City finance budget, the city began a period of economic growth in the late 1990’s where the property taxes began reflecting an increase in the value of real estate and overall taxes represented a general increase in per capita income. Over the period the city was able to sustain both low inflation and unemployment rates. Investment grew almost three fold, according to the Dow Jones Industrial, S P 500, and the Nasdaq composite charts (City of Culver City, 485-86). However, economic growth has plateauxed since 2001, and the employment rate that had fallen from 9 to 3. 9 percent, has risen up to approximately six percent (485). Across the United States, the health care industry has had to cope with economic changes resulting from rising medical costs. The Culver City population sustained a growth of 47% between the years 1990 and 2000 (â€Å"City Population,† p. 2). The records of the Culver City Redevelopment Agency reveal that the population of the city is 39,119. On average, there are about 16,826 households represented in the area, and the income for the average household is about $76,013 per annum. The income for the average family household amounts to $90,930. The Culver City trade area extends beyond this. If the area considered extends to a three mile radius beyond the hub of the city, the population increases 305,287 and boasts an average family income of $79,689. Within a five mile radius live about 852,147 people, and the inclusion of this population brings the average household income back up to $87,820. The median age of Culver City is 40, and 84% of all the adults of this city have attained at least a high school education. Thirty five percent of these adults have also attained at least a bachelor’s degree in higher education. The population is distributed mainly among persons of Caucasian, Hispanic, African American and Asian origins. Forty-six percent of the inhabitants are white, 25% are Hispanic, 12% are Asian and another 12% are African American. The remaining 5% are of unknown or â€Å"other† origin (â€Å"Demographics†). In Culver City is a rather prosperous community. Only 2. 96% of the population earns less than $20,000 per year. Those who live on an amount between $20,000 and $50,000 amount to 13. 46% and another 22. 37% live within the next tier level, between $50,000 and $75,000. Seventeen percent live on $75,001 to $100,000, and a third of all the people live on an income higher than $100,000. Approximately 16% of the Culver City residents are over sixty years old (â€Å"Demographics†). For strategic management purposes it is dangerous to consider the over-65 group as a homogeneous one (Willging, 2003). Shifts in demographic and increases in lifespan have changed the make-up and the desires of the aging population (Ginter, et al. 2006, p. 6). The senior citizens and retiree demographic in Culver City has been divided into three groups for the sake of consumer analysis. The retirement group has a median income of approximately $53,000 which is about $11,000 higher than the national average. Non-whites are represent about 43% of this group and approximately 35% of this group has attained a bachelor’s (or higher) degree. This group is likely on average to spend a mid-to-high amount on entertainment, but spends a bit lower on average on health care, presumably because not all retirees are senior citizens (Artsmarket, 2002, p. 12-13). The active senior singles group has a median income of $32,000, which is also higher than the national median. They participate in many health activities and have a medium-to-high likelihood of spending money on health. The portion of none whites in this group is approximately 22%, and 25. 7% percent of the members of the active senior singles group have attained college degrees (Artsmarket, 2002, p. 14-15). The prosperous older couples group has a median income of approximately $67,500, which is an astounding $32,000 higher than the national median. Thirty percent of these have attained bachelor’s degrees (or higher) and people of color make up 29 % of the group. Their likelihood of spending on health care is in the high range (Artsmarket, 2002, p. 16-17). The city’s economic situation presents costs and benefits to any prospective nursing-home business venture. The fixed costs of entering the market would be considerable, but the increased unemployment rate (up from 3. 9 percent) would make the price of labor a little more affordable than in recent years. A favorable thing for businesses is the tax rebate program that has been instituted by the city to encourage new business. This grants them tax relief from either business or utility users’ tax (â€Å"City of Culver City, 489). A new entrant into the nursing home industry in Culver City must consider the quality of care that is to be provided by that business entity. The general problems with funding being experienced by nursing homes across the country has led not just to many law suits and eventual bankruptcy, but to the loss of customers to competitors (Day, 2005). Culver City customers also require not just a variety but quality of service. Variety will be an asset; however, as there is great intensity of rivalry among existing organizations, and the nursing home industry is experiencing rapid growth driven by the demographic and social trends mentioned above. It must be noted, for example, that a good portion of the seniors are educated, and â€Å"educated seniors tend to be more knowledgeable and have higher expectations of a facility† (Willging, 2003). The significant portion of non-whites must also be considered and real attempts made to cater and appeal to them. In addition, it must be noted that a vast majority of these seniors have lived active lives; therefore, facilities which cater to this would be magnetic to their tastes. The competitors in the Culver City nursing home industry, though they provide adequate care and the necessary facilities, can be categorized into four groups that denote they quality of service they offer as well as the level of reimbursement that they require for those services. For this service area nursing home facilities are pursuing four basic strategies: high price with highly specialized services (strategic group 1), low price with few ancillary services (strategic group 2), medium price with some services, (strategic group 3), and high price with many services (strategic group 4). Customers who seek the attributes of one strategic group, such as highly specialized rehabilitation services, are unlikely to be attracted to another strategic group. A good idea for a newcomer in the nursing home market is to choose the group to which it is best able to cater, and possibly to diversify the scope of the service by offering one or two (not many) extra services. Then, concentrate on providing the best service possible in that group. Diversity does exist in the consumer groups, but this information must be acted upon with care. Early retirees, for example, who might need nursing home care, may not yet qualify for state or federal assisted care (Clinton, 1993). Medicare and Medicaid provide full coverage to only about 9% of seniors, and many are forced to pay out of pocket (Day, 2005). The figures have shown that many Culver City seniors can afford this, but paying out of pocket means that the consumers will be even more unlikely to accept less than the best care. This look at the nursing home industry as it exists in Culver City has revealed that, though a â€Å"buyers’ market† exists and the competition is very high, a newcomer in the market might still have a chance to win a significant market share. This must be done by paying attention to the demographic as well as the economic situations that have the power to affect the market. The psychographic and demographic aspects show that a diversity of services must be offered and that any newcomer desiring be successful in such a competitive and demanding market must be willing to (carefully) diversify. Peter Paul and Mary - Blowin in the Wind Essay Example for Free

Peter Paul and Mary Blowin in the Wind Essay Peter, Paul, and Marys â€Å"Blowin in the Wind† is actually quite appealing to a mainstream audience, due to the simple arrangement and catchy hook. The accompaniment is easy to follow and understand, which makes it accessible to listeners that do not necessarily have a music education. Also, the tight vocal harmonies between two men and one woman are very interesting, because that sort of setting is not typical for popular music fare. Also, for being a folk song, the twang or accent is very subdued, which would possibly turn off some listeners who might be averse to folk tunes. Theres a good deal of vocal inflection in Marys voice, which pulls on the listener emotionally. For someone who does not particularly prefer folk music, the song is actually quite pleasant, and the strong lyrical content is definitely worth a second glance. Conversely, Bob Dylans version is more spoken, and contains a more rubato vocal performance. Also, the inclusion of the harmonica heightens the folk quality to the song. Moreover, Bob Dylans diction is much more â€Å"country,† with hard â€Å"Rs,† â€Å"jist† in the place of just, and â€Å"yesn† in the place of yes. Those minor shifts create a rustic feeling, where Peter, Paul, and Marys diction was more refined, for the folk style. These two different takes on one song make a lasting difference, in terms of the presentation of the material. Peter, Paul, and Marys version of the single sold a phenomenal three hundred thousand copies in the first week of release. So, perhaps it is safe to say that folk songs can be popular, they just have to be presented in such a way that appeals to a wide audience, while still staying true to the roots. It is not an easy task to fulfill, but Peter, Paul and Mary have proved that it can be accomplished.

Steps in Developing a Human Resource Plan

Steps in Developing a Human Resource Plan Human resource planning is process of corresponding or matching skills and capacities of different members with the long-term goals and financial prospect in the community. Creating a human resource plan wants to involve the significant community sectors, this contribution and input will gives to strong community support. I am planning to explain about the apple corporation. Strategic HR planning is a significant component of strategic HR management. HR management has a link directly to the strategic plan of your organization by it. Mainly mid- to huge sized organizations have a strategic plan that guides it in effectively meeting its mission. Organizations habitually complete financial plans to guarantee they achieve organizational goals and while staff plans are not as regular, they are just as essential. A small organization also with nearly 10 staff can develop a strategic plan to guide decisions about the upcoming. Based on the strategic plan, a strategic HR plan can be developed with your organization which will allow you to build HR management decisions now to carry the future direction of the organization. From a budgetary point of view strategic HR planning is also important in order that you can factor the costs of recruitment, training, etc. into your organizations operating budget. Apple Corporation HR planning is the huge sized organization. This is maintaining development centres all over the world. Apple needs high capability hr planning. HR training and development services from Apple corporation will make possible your ruthless recreation of performance improvement. Our sole post-training intervention includes training supervisors to assess their respective teams, making possible that the learning outcomes are met. Value-added human resource management be required to basically modify the way it thinks about enrollment and employment. One of the ways this can be talented is by the improvement and implementation of a strategic staffing plan. A company to observe its workers as a basis of aggressive benefit inspire of a hit to the foot line is allowed by this plan. Set up for a amend in come close to from traditional human resource management to strategic human resource management. HR business plan should be emphasize talent management and workforce capability, write that one. supplement career growth and progressive opportunities for new hires and offered employees through using job posting and other programs that support endorsement from within the company. For building a dedicated and highly affianced employee base for your company, Use alternative work arrangements .Re classify time-honored work preparations. to For recruiting effectively and offer human resource services develop innovative wa ys via partnering with schools, colleges and universities. Create definite to integrate miscellany into the staffing management procedure. Managers and senior leaders provide the essential tools to workforce their trade units themselves. Provide human resource training to help them take advantage of the new staffing management program. Learning organizations shouldnt be developed organically with organizations; factors prompting are there to their change. As organizations rise, their capacity will be loose to learn as business structure and personage opinion becomes firm. While problems are arising, the projected solutions repeatedly turn out to be only short term (single loop learning) and resurface in the upcoming. To remain aggressive, many organizations have been restructured, with smaller amount people in the company. So that , they who are remaining want to work more efficiently. Companies need to be trained sooner than their colleges to create a competitive advantage and to improve a customer reactive culture. apple recognized organizations want to maintain acquaintance about new goods and processes, should be known what is happening in the outer surroundings and by using the knowledge and skills of all within the organization produce creative solutions. Co-operation must be required between individuals and groups for this. Putting together an HR strategy: HR can prevent several of their prospective battles by foreseing and addressing a little of the troubles that will likely take place. As a common rule of thumb, five basic reasons are there for strategy performance breakdown assisting workers to know the strategy. Strategy development is, in several ways, a systematized method of removing the companys so many inside roadblocks to modify. Each strategy will come upon some assess of battle, when its been unanimously agreed that also. Ahead of Human Resource experts are able to toil to develop strategy, they have to first find out what obstacles currently subsist to prevent the preferred varies from happening in their association. Amend is very important; and the more theatrical the vary in strategy, obviously, the much struggle there will be. Workforce must understand not just the strategic direction itself; they must also have a handle on the cause for the strategy, as well as the driving forces after it. Recruits are the workings around which the gears of trade twist. If the workers dont know where the strategy is headed, they will be incompetent of realizing their full probable in aiding the strategy accomplishment. Augmenting employee dedication to the policy. Changes in plan mean changes for community on a personage level, and human being change tends to indicate regret, dissatisfaction, and challenge. If a worker is going to present any extra endeavour towards propelling a conceived strategy to fulfillment, he should really be given to consider that, in the elongated run, the conclusion product is to be worth the complicated sacrifices made so as to apply the strategy. Streamlining home attempt with the strategy. Even if consistently all workforce have got to be on board to understand and entrust to the strategy. Developing a strategy means justifiably varying work manufacture. So as to reach the trade strategy, all off-strategy job have got to come to an end and all on-strategy work must continue with improved hurry and commitment. Inducing cross-system teamwork. The last but not least, very important step in strategy performance is that of realigning departmental associations within the system. Developing strategy means carving deeper interaction between mutually dependent organizational units, such as sales and producing, or consumer service and allocation. The final profession is as challenging as it is grave, for the reason that it demands that workforce within distinct work plants learn to allocate and intermingle across the time-honoured borders of their profession descriptions. Organizational design There is a good thing in these about this approach to organization design and similar people to roles are that it focal points on the finest fit among the range of capability of an personage and the size of a character. Work pressure can take place if somebodys capacity is up or down the level of the role. People are most contented working at the right level-not too high, or not too low. Many people are given the message that if not they hope to progress up, theres a little wrong with them. But we pressure that it is all about finding a fit to the class of work you like doing and are fine at doing. Apple acquaintances has done tremendous explore on the impact of this class of work on organizations and the data illustrates perfection in worker satisfaction, economic presentation and consumer fulfilment. This is because when you obtain a good fit, the workforce is both glad and prolific. Leadership dedication is the key. If you trust the data around organization efficiency, most organizations are most likely about 30% efficient. To pick up on that a little is tough but vastly significant. But it takes a lot of commitment to stick to it. Our commitment to the people in our trade is that we are taking the time to do this right because we want this to be an organization design that will be in service for at least the next decade. We are in for the long tow. On this period, 3 years into it, there is no getting back. This project has thoroughly altered my viewpoint over the role I opine Human Resource wishes to take part in and Ive worked in Human Resource once in a while for twenty years. I at present get actual clearness over the restrictions of which type of role should and shouldnt be and the significance of us favoring management and not treading far away into executives ´ footwear. Its been a main special lecture for me. There is full-size Human Resource work to be finished in favoring this type of vary, and receiving the procedures in place that permit precious organization design to be executed well and sustained. However in allowing amend, I am extremely obvious about where my part and my functions part end and the task of management starts. The very imperative liability of a manager is to know their group, handle their presentation and grow their ability collection. Staying clear on the variation between a administrators liability and Human Resources liability has been an significant element in the achievement of this vary. Process of human resources planning The word  human resource  means human assets that manage a group. The word  planning  suggests a path of deed. And finally,  process  is the course of action. so, the human resource planning procedure is distinct as, a course of action that the human resources catches up for a systematic reaching of programmed goals. The classification of human resource does not end here. The term includes, its management, which primarily involves issues related to the workforce.  Human Resource Management  (HRM) is the planned and logical proceed to the management of a groups the majority valued assets the people working there who independently and together contribute to the attainment of the goals of the trade. The human resource planning process, demands the HR manager to first know the business requirement. Only if he understands the character and range of the industry, will he be able to employ those who will deliver the needed  presentation. When it approaches to engaging the man resources, the executive should have a keen eye for marking the endowment. It promises that the staff is skilled sufficient the reach the objectives. In addition, the existing ability collection in the place of work should be caught into concern, thus that group with admiring abilities can be engaged. The  tasks of the human resources manager  are differed; he has to levies at present in a job workforce and their deficiencies. Recognizing these deficiencies go a lengthy route in preferring a competent employees. The last movement in human resource planning is raising exploit tactics depend on the collected data, scrutiny and existing options. The solution issue is that the strategies should be suitable to both top organization and workforce. Strategies have to be prioritized and their key players and barriers to achievement recognized. Some of these plans include worker consumption plan, appraisal plan, training and management development plan and human resource supply plan. You are hiring the most excellent workforce for your organizations wishes. You want brilliant workforce who set your civilization. Your staffing policies are vital in magnetizing these public. Engaging the correct worker is a challenging method. Engaging the incorrect worker is pricey, expensive to your profession location, and time consuming. Engaging the accurate worker, on the additional hand, gives you rear in worker production, a winning service connection, and a activist collision on your entire work surroundings. Wish to engage and appoint a advanced employees? This checklist will facilitate you classify your appointing process. The checklist helps you keep path of your engaging efforts. It converses both the engaging and the appointing procedure and improvement in engaging to the hiring manager. Take a look and give opinion. You can develop interaction with prospective nominees long before you want them. These thoughts will also be of assistance you in engaging a huge collection of contenders when you have a present location obtainable. Searching for talent? The brilliant employers, who engage the nice applicants, build up a well trained applicant collection previous to they want to load an occupation. You can build up interaction with prospective candidates long before you need them. These ideas will also help you create a large pool of candidates when you have a present location vacant. Recruitment is the act of searching contenders, appraising candidate qualifications, viewing prospective workforce, and picking workers for a group. Efficient staffing consequences in an organization appointing workforce, who are expert, qualified, and excellent sets with your business background. Staffing manners should make sure engaged workers who are dependable to your business. Organizational culture and working practices Customs are the location that surrounds you at effort all of the time. Customs are a commanding aspect that forms your work satisfaction, your work interaction, and your work courses. But, customs are impressive that you cant really see, excluding through its objective materializations in your work place. Public in every place of work talk about executive culture, that strange word that differentiate work surroundings. One of the key queries and appraisals, when employers interrogate a prospective employee, discovers whether the contender is a good quality literary athletic. Culture is not easy to describe, other than you usually get when you have found a worker who seems to suitable for your culture. He just feels correct. An organizations culture is prepared up of all of the life incidents every member of staff carries to the organization. Culture is particularly inclined by the organizations establisher, executives, and other decision-making team because of their part in conclusion making and intentional direction. Changing working practices in Human Resources The Human Resources specialized contributes to the business by constantly appraising the efficiency of the Human Resources function. He also sponsors adjust in other divisions and in work performs. To endorse the on the whole accomplishment of his group, he champs the recognition of the organizational operation, image, standards, targets and action tactics. Lastly, he helps conclude the events that will tell his organization how well it is successive in all of this. The stable assessment of the efficiency of the group results in the need for the Human Resources expert to often title holder change. Both knowledge about and the capability to accomplish unbeaten change policies make the Human Resources expert extremely valued. Knowing how to connection change to the tactical desires of the organization will curtail employee unhappiness and opposition to change. Human Resources workforce members are promoters for both the business and the staff who work in the company. Accordingly, a superior Human Resources expert makes a stable balancing act to meet both desires fruitfully. The part of the Human Resources proficient is shifting. In the earlier period, Human Resources executives were frequently viewed as the systematizing, policing wing of supervisory management. Their part was more narrowly associated with individual and organization functions that were viewed by the organization as formalities. When you consider that the primary Human Resources function, in many businesses, get s out of the management or finance section because engaging workers, paying workers, and dealing with profit were the organizations first Human Resources needs, this is not shocking. TIME MANAGEMENT  is one of the best resolutions which can assist to decrease the inequality between the personal and the work life of the workers. Prioritizing the errands and planning the behavior can assist to take out a little leisure time which can be made use of for other intentions. Managing some time out for hobbies and relaxation activities, spending with beloved ones can facilitate to hit the strain, accustom to say no if necessary. Sharing the responsibilities will help and dont entrust for somewhat which is almost not possible. Utilizing the supple working hours choice of the organisations to acquire some leisure time.

Free Hamlet Essays: Hamlet’s Fatal Mistake :: Shakespeare Hamlet Essays

Hamlet’s Fatal Mistake  Ã‚   When you play a part or a role to disguise your true character it harms you in the end. Hamlet’s antic disposition was a tragic error on his part because it let to his eventual demise. Hamlet displays the antic disposition in order to fool Claudius, although Claudius is the only character to not be fooled. When Hamlet denies Ophelia his love, she goes mad and takes her life. Hamlet becomes confused as to whether he is insane or not. For these reasons, Hamlet’s decision to portray an antic disposition is a tragic error.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   When Hamlet found out that Claudius killed his father Hamlet was furious, and got right to work on how to get his fathers revenge. Hamlet went to work by coming up with a plan to act mad so that it would hide the truth from Claudius, which was that Hamlet was going to kill Claudius. Hamlet has no such luck. Claudius does not believe Hamlet’s attempt at pretending that he is mad. "Was not like madness. There’s something in his soul" (III; I; 161). This means that Claudius does not believe that Hamlet is insane, but rather has some sort of plan being brewed. Claudius also has a plan that is to kill hamlet. This is ironic because in the end they end up Claudius is in the end murdered by Hamlet.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Hamlet must act mad if he wants Claudius to believe him, so Hamlet uses his confrontations with Ophelia to display it. Ophelia is manipulated by Hamlet for his own personal gain. Hamlet uses Ophelia to get the word that he is mad around the kingdom. This is sad because Ophelia is innocent and she ends up committing suicide in the end. One of the way’s Hamlet fools Ophelia into believing that he is insane is by scaring her. (II; I;75). " I have been so affrighted". Hamlet fools Ophelia into believing that he is mad by killing Polonius behind a curtain in the Gertrude’s room. This incident drives Ophelia into becoming insane and leads to her taking her own life.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Hamlet spends much of his time pretending to be mad, that he starts to believe that he really is insane. Hamlet feels as if he is losing control when he sees his father’s ghost in Gertrude’s chambers. Every other time the ghost appeared, someone else saw it as well, only this time his mother did not see it.

Henrik Isbens A Dolls House Essays -- A Dolls House Essays

Henrik Isben?s A Doll?s House is the story of a man and a woman who have been married for eight years but are not really in love. Although at the first of the story we see a typical family, underneath there lies a dark secret. Torvald Helmer, the husband, is a lawyer who has been unsuccessful in the past because he would not accept a shady case. This has put the couple and their children in a great financial struggle and this forces him to turn elsewhere for employment. He ends up working at a local bank, putting an end to the family struggle. At the start of the story we see Nora Helmer, his wife, coming in from town with several small wrapped packages and a Christmas tree. She is a very childish acting woman but on the same note, she is also very deceptive and cunning. Nora has kept a secret from her husband ever since they moved from their last home. Torvald was very sick and Nora was pregnant with their first child. Nora?s father was on his deathbed as well. Torvald?s doc tor confided in Nora that if Torvald didn?t move south then he was going to die. Since they hadn?t the money to do so, Nora takes it upon herself to borrow the money, which was not allowed solely by a woman. In order to get the loan she and her father had to sign the papers. Seeing her father?s condition, she forged his signature. She told her husband that the money was a gift from her father so he would not feel indebted to her forever. The money that Nora borrowed is almost paid off at this point and she was excited. Then the story takes a sudden turn. Father/Son Relationships in Shakespeares Henry IV, Part One Essay

Father/Son Relationships in Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part One    The relationship between a father and his son is an important theme in Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part One, as it relates to the two main characters of the play, Prince Hal and Hotspur. These two characters, considered as youths and future rulers to the reader, are exposed to father-figures whose actions will influence their actions in later years. Both characters have two such father-figures; Henry IV and Falstaff for Prince Hal, and the Earl of Northumberland and the Earl of Worcester for Hotspur. Both father-figures for Hal and Hotspur have obvious good and bad connotations in their influence on the character. For example, Falstaff, in his drinking and reveling, is clearly a poor influence for a future ruler such as Prince Hal, and Worcester, who shares Hotspur's temper, encourages Hotspur to make rash decisions. The entire plot of the play is based on which father-figure these characters choose to follow: had they chosen the other, the outcome would have been wholly diff erent. At the start of the play, the reader sees that Prince Hal has been acting in a manner which has disappointed his father. The King compares Hotspur to Hal, saying that Hotspur is à ¬A son who is the theme of honour's tongue,à ® and that à ¬riot and dishonour stain the brow of [Hal] (I.i.3).à ® He even wishes that the two were switched: à ¬Then would I have his Harry, and he mine (I.i.3).à ® The King obviously does not approve of Hal's actions, and believes that, if Hal does not change his ways, he will be a poor successor to the throne. This is quite true, as Hal spends the majority of his time in seedy taverns, associating with what his father calls à ¬rude societyà ® (III.ii.... ...ators to join them, and who sets the wheels of the revolution in motion. The consequences of the Hal and Hotspur's choice in father-figures are indeed what leads the play to its final outcome. Hal, who sides with his father and not Falstaff, becomes a noble prince and redeems himself in the eyes of his father. Hotspur, on the other hand, sides with Worcester, and their collective tempers lead them to make the rash decision to revolt. Their tempers are also responsible for other poor decisions that evade the chance of truce, resulting in the inevitable failure of the rebellion. Indeed, all could have been prevented if Hotspur sided with his father, rather than his uncle, and Hal would have become a desolate criminal had he followed Falstaff. Hospice Care Essay

Hospice care is a special type of care that is mainly concerned in comforting patients and issuance of quality life instead of providing curative services to a sick person. Hospice care is in most cases appropriate for someone with a terminal illness and the life of persons is expected to run for six months or less. There are in-patient hospices units are often set up for offering the hospice services. However, when need arises, the hospice administration can offer extensive services to the patients at their homes (Forman, 2003, p. 53). Hospice care units also offer medical social services. Every patient referred to hospice care is assigned a social worker who assists him or her with the social and emotional needs. Counseling services are also offered where spiritual and pastoral support is given to encourage the patients emotionally (Forman, 2003, p. 58). Bereavement counseling is also offered to the family and caregivers for a whole one year after the patient has passed away. The hospice units finance all the medical services and medications of the patient’s diagnosis and other related symptoms that are alleviated. Laboratory and other diagnostic studies are offered in relation to any terminal illness to help determine the terminal illness of the patient. Difference between Hospice Care and other Long-term Care Unlike other care-providing facilities such as the nursing home facilities and assisted living facilities, hospice care does not offer a 24 hour care to the patients (Forman, 2003, p. 53). Instead, hospice care only operates for 12 hours and therefore there is need for the family members to take care of their patient or employ caregivers or other nursing home staff (Forman, 2003, p. 4). For a patient to qualify for hospice care, a medical practitioner must give a directive that the patient is having six months or less to live and that medication is helping no more. One main objective of the hospice care is to improve the quality of life. Hospice care today offers the same services just like the Palliative Care (Forman, 2003, p. 55). Hospice care services can be similar to those of other long-term care facilities and also there are distinct differences between the two. Nursing services is one of the services offered in a hospice care unit. A patient is assigned a nurse who visits him or her 3 days a week. This helps a lot to restore the health of the patient as the patients prepare for a good death with people around them having good communication (Forman, 2003, p. 67). There is also a physician who works hand in hand with the nurse to help restore the health of the individual. The physician checks on the patient regularly to ensure whether the health of the patient is improving or not (Forman, 2003, p. 53). In conclusion, the hospice care units improve the quality of life of many individuals. It should be well understood that the mission of hospice is to establish life and make people see death as any other natural process. Many have often believed that hospice care is to hasten life, but that is not the case. It is clear that the hospice care is so different from other types of care such as the nursing facilities and assisted living facilities. The difference comes in terms of the services offered. Most of the services in the hospice care are all about medical improvement as a person is nearing death. Also, hospice care does not provide services unless one has been asked by the medical practitioner to seek the hospice services.

Research Proposal- Are Victims of Childhood Sexual Abuse Essay

Childhood sexual abuse is a subject that is not researched very deeply. One issue is traumatizing the victims even more by studying them on a long-term base. There are questions that researchers want to answer but designing the right study to achieve the answers is sensitive work. One such question is â€Å"Are victims of childhood sexual abuse more likely to engage in sexual activity at earlier ages than non-abused†? Research is lacking in the area of childhood sexuality and without this research psychologists are unable to adequately study the negative effects of sexual abuse of children. I will conduct a developmental study using the sequential design in order to answer the question: Are victims of childhood sexual abuse more likely to engage in sexual activity at earlier ages than non-abused? I am conducting this study to gain a greater understanding of how violation of trust and body may or may not cause a child to engage in sexual activity at an earlier age than non-abused children. The available literature on childhood sexual abuse is insufficient on many levels and lack adequate methodologies for approaching treatment or study of victims of childhood sexual abuse. Research Proposal: Are Victims of Childhood Sexual Abuse More Likely to Engage in Sexual Activity at Earlier Ages than Non-Abused Introduction Childhood sexual abuse (CSA) is a subject that is not researched very deeply. When someone you trust or even someone you do not know takes something from you is devastating to say the least. When that something is an experience you do not understand and have not experienced under normal circumstances the devastation is unimaginable. When an adult or older person violates a child in a sexual manner it introduces feelings that the child is not ready to have, and it causes confusion in the child; this is known as traumatic sexualization. Traumatic sexualization refers to an evolvement in which a child’s sexuality is formed in a developmentally improper and interpersonally dysfunctional ways. Human sexuality develops in stages and if forced to experience a stage before the body is ready it will hinder the body’s ability to cope. Sex and sexually explicit behaviors are not intended in childhood. Humans do not enter puberty until adolescence and still are not sure how to cope with the feeling, but if molested or raped before ever experiencing any of the feelings naturally the children may never be able to know what they truly feel in regard to sex. Every survivor copes with sexual abuse in different ways. Some may become promiscuous, exhibit sexualized behaviors, and some become abuser themselves. This study’s focus is promiscuity. CSA has a variety of definitions including but not limited to: attempted intercourse, oral genital contact, fondling of genitals directly or through clothing, and exhibitionism or exposing children to adult sexual activity or pornography. For the purpose of this research the following is the definition; CSA is the involvement of a child in sexual activity above the child’s cognitive developmental understanding and above the child’s developmental maturity. As a coping mechanism some sexual abuse survivors may become sexually active with multiple partners. Promiscuity is not a coping mechanism that any therapist would recommend to a survivor, but it is one path some survivors take. Research has shown a correlation between the severity of the abuse and the number of partners a survivor will have. A number of factors determine the severity of the abuse encompassing the relationship between victim and perpetrator, whether or not there is physical force or threats, whether penetration takes place, and the number of occurrences. My step-grandfather raped me at the age of nine. He told me that if I struggled or refused he would just go to my three-year-old sister because she would not be able to refuse. I would cringe when his bath water started to run because I knew what was coming. He would force me to perform oral sex on him until he climaxed and I had to swallow it he would then penetrate me. I spit it at him once, but by the time that night was over I knew to never do that again. He was extremely violent when penetrating me that night. I could not wear shorts for a week because the bruises would show. Anytime we were alone he would touch me and make me touch him. As the summer continued his boldness progress to the point that he would fondle me under a blanket on the couch while, watching movies with my grandmother and little sister. As I grew he would try to be alone with me but I knew what he wanted, and would not be alone with him. Over the years he did molest me a handful of times but that summer was the only time there was penetration. I tried blocking the summer out but that only made it worse for me so I decided to make sex meaningless because up to the time he ripped it from me I thought it was special and only for marriage. I cannot say that had this not happened I would not have become sexually active but I truly believed in waiting. A year after having the option ripped from me and trying to hide the pain I broke down and started having sex with friends interested in sex. By the time I was 16 the number of partners I had been with was 6. I always wondered if I used another coping mechanism would I still have such a high number. I have been with my husband for 20 years and have just begun to truly feel the intimate connection I should have felt from the beginning. Review of the Literature Over the past years CSA has received much public attention however, majority of research has focused on the victims as children; comparatively little work has been published on the long term consequences. CSA researchers are faced with a number of challenges. The definition of CSA is a reason to why there is lack of research. As there is no universal definition researcher’s definitions can differ, and as a result depending on the definition used in the study findings can vary. The lack of research in the effects of CSA is also due to the difficulties in establishing casual connections between the abuse and the later affects years after the abuse. Effects found in survivors are not always exclusive to the childhood sexual abuse and may reflect other underlying issues. Conducting studies in sensitive areas such as CSA has proven to be difficult; therefore research in such fields may be limited. A study conducted on the ethical issues in research on sensitive topics noted that, participants who had experienced child abuse were more likely to report distress after participating in research, due to remembering the past. However, researchers also found that these participants were more likely to report that participation was helpful. Another difficulty in assessing the effects of childhood sexual abuse is that through the repression of the trauma, or dissociation, survivors of such abuse may possibly not consciously remember the abuse experience. Therefore findings gathered from research could be effected, interfering with the validly and reliability of the study. Research has documented that CSA survivors are more prone to suffer from social, emotional and behavioral problems than non survivors; difficulties include, however are not limited to, anxiety, depression, guilt, difficulty with interpersonal relationships, self-destructive behaviors, lowered self-esteem, and promiscuity. According to research evidence, early sexual experiences often have an influence on later sexual behavior. When initial sexual experience is abusive, it could elicit explicit effects on ensuing sexual behaviors. Research has found that survivors of CSA engage in risky sexual behavior at higher rates than individuals who have not experienced such abuse. A number of studies furthered Costas and Landreth’s findings and reported that risky sexual behavior in adults previously abused was exhibited in many forms; having many sexual partners, failing to use condoms during intercourse increasing the risk of sexually transmitted infections and having anal sex. Meston and Lorenz provided an explanation as to why some adults with a history of CSA may participate in risky sexual behavior. Sexual abuse could result in the abused to disregard their own humanity therefore, perform sexual acts in a more promiscuous way. A survivor’s childhood experience could cause him or her to be incapable of separating sex from affection, which then leads to promiscuity or impaired arousal. Sexual promiscuity was a way for me to take control of my feelings and be able to keep the abuse from totally consuming me. Method Population, Procedure, Instruments, and Data Analysis I will conduct a developmental study using the sequential design in order to answer the question: Are victims of childhood sexual abuse more likely to engage in sexual activity at earlier ages than non-abused? The study would need to have 50 participants (25 male, 25 female) in the 10-15 age group during the first phase. The same 50 would come back in 10 years, and one last time in another 10 years. During each phase the participants will fill out the same questionnaire and the collected data will be analyzed. After the final phase each participant’s results will be reviewed for changes. The collected data will be compared among the varying age groups as well as for individual changes each decade. Discussion I am conducting this study to gain a greater understanding of how violation of trust and body may or may not cause a child to engage in sexual activity at an earlier age than non-abused children. The available literature on childhood sexual abuse is insufficient on many levels and lack adequate methodologies for approaching treatment or study of victims of childhood sexual abuse. The data collected will hopefully answer this question and proved helpful information on how to cope with this specific effect of CSA. As a survivor of CSA, I know promiscuity was my coping strategy, but wish that I had chosen a safer strategy. With more knowledge and a better understanding of how to help CSA survivors; therapists may save future survivors from engaging in promiscuous behavior. References: Allan, J. A., & Lawton-Speert, S. Mariono Blanch Autobiography

Hi, I’m Mariono im 15 years old and during my 15 years of existence I’ve learned many things I’ve also experienced many things, but I also have surrounded my beliefs around things I was taught. The one major thing that I go by which I call a belief is expressing your feelings and not holding them in ask for help if you need it. I say this because I had to learn the hard way and hurting others while learning. My mom is a single parent she is also flight attendant so she travels a lot and I didn’t really have a male figure in my life because my father left when I was younger so I had a lot of anger in me and I never really said anything. I wouldn’t say that I had an attitude but it was like I was mad at the world I felt like I was being punished for nothing so as I got older people would bring up my situation more and more. They would ask me questions like are you okay? Are you happy? Should we talk about it? Then I would be dishonest because I was so determined that I was going to keep a motto me, myself and I. I also would get jealous sometimes when I saw happy families together because that feeling turned me kind of bitter. As my teen years started to come the more accomplishments I achieved the more angry I got because I wanted that father and son bond time. It started to affect me a lot I started to think different in school, lashing out at people for nothing so of course people started to notice the difference in me. Then people started offering me help and some I didn’t even know so then I stopped talking a lot and one day me and my mom had a disagreement about a box of cereal and then my body just let go and I snapped. It was like I couldn’t control myself I was letting so much out over something so small and once I cooled down I sat down and thought about it and I thought to myself I can’t live like this. So I ask my mom for some changes so now I live with a full figure family a little bother a little sister and I have a dad to talk to and now I can release myself. Sometimes I will think about my past and the choices I made and how I grew up and when I do I just simply talk to someone without being afraid of being judged. I try to spread and help people with my belief as much as I can and I just want to close out by saying your body is like a temple it’s a certain amount of everything it can take before a reaction come out so you should try to take care of it as much as possible don’t leave stress in anger and you ask for help then release it.

Life of Adele Essay

Better known simply as Adele, is an English singer, songwriter and musician. Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in Tottenham, north London, England, to Penny Adkins, an English teenager, and Mark Evans, a Welshman, on 5 May 1988. Evans walked out on Adele when she was two, leaving her 20-year-old mother to raise her single-handedly, for which Adele has still not forgiven him. She began singing at age four and asserts that she became obsessed with voices. Adele has cited the Spice Girls as a major influence in regard to her love and passion for music, stating that â€Å"they made me what I am today. † At the age of nine, Adele and her mother, a furniture-maker and adult learning activities organiser, relocated to Brighton. She remains an ardent fan of her hometown Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur. At 11, she and her mother moved to Brixton, and then to neighbouring district West Norwood, in south London. West Norwood is the subject for Adele’s first record, â€Å"Hometown Glory†, written when she was 16. After moving to south London, she became interested in R&B artists such as Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child and Mary J. Blige. Adele says that one of the most defining moments in her life was when she watched Pink perform at Brixton Academy. Adele graduated from the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon in May 2006, where she was a classmate of Leona Lewis and Jessie J.  Adele credits the school with nurturing her talent even though at the time she was more interested in going into A&R and hoped to launch other people’s careers. Her debut album, 19, was released in 2008 to much commercial and critical success. Adele released her second album, 21, in early 2011. The album was well received critically and surpassed the success of her debut, earning the singer six Grammy Awards in 2012 including Album of the Year, equalling the record for most Grammy Awards won by a female artist in one night. The success of 21 earned Adele numerous mentions in the Guinness World Records. She is the first artist to sell more than 3 million copies of an album in a year in the UK. With her two albums and the first two singles from 21, â€Å"Rolling in the Deep† and â€Å"Someone Like You†, Adele became the first living artist to achieve the feat of having two top-five hits in both the UK Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since The Beatles in 1964.

Arguments in Akbar’s the Great

Arguments in Akbar’s the Great Akbar was living in the mid 1500’s and the early 1600’s. Akbar lived in india. Akbar was only 14 years of age when he took over the throne and surpassed his father. 1564 was the year that akbar was almost assassinated and killed buy a bullet. The bullet did not kill him it only struck his shoulder and Akbar lived. Shortly after this Akbar the Great took the reigns of the mughal empire and he took over the empire. A anti mughal coalistin that was maniley a bunch of afghanis tried to pull of something out of the ordinary, They tried to recapture the throne, it didn’t turn out that well because they loses the battle against the Mughals, The mughals are akbar’s empire.Akbar was an ambitos and noble commander. Akbar built one of the biggest armies known to the mughal empire. One barrier that akbar happen to come across was the afghanis in india. The afghanis where one of the most dangerous to the mughal empire.Akbar declared his intentions to reclaim the rights to the throne at the delhi. The huge mughal empire moved to panipat to conquer and the Mughals faced hemu’s. One of the biggest problem here is that hemu’s army was giant. Even bigger than the Mughals. Even 3x larger than it. It was almost impossible for the mughals to defeat hemu’s army. So Akbar’s hope for the throne is almost gone at this point. But the Mughals army was smarter than hemu’s because the mughals struck the leader of the hemu’s. When a empire or an army doesn’t have a leader they don’t know what they do so they surrendered and akbar took over the throne again. Thesis Akbar was an Agent of change because he was so powerful he extended his empire at 14 years of age, he revised the tax system and he was religiously open minded . Argument 1 Evidence 1 Akbar ruled through cooperation and tolerance. Akbar did not make any of the hindu population/ people convert to islam if they didn’t want to. Akbar also was able to translate hindi literature he was very welcoming of other religions as he was a very curious person. Argument 1 Evidence 2 Akbar the great was a fabulous general and he extended on his military development throughout his reign when akbar died his empire continued Argument 1 Evidence 3 In creation of his empire akbar had a lot of success because of that he created his empire and as a result of that he was able to earn trust and loyalty from the people who conquered him and then Akbar conquered them. Argument 2 Evidence 1 He inherited small fiefs but he was able to achieve stability, and over time he won control of northern india and the afghanis. By the time he dies he ruled from afghanistan to sindu. He was able to do that because he was a great and smart ruler who a lot of people respected. By his strategies to conquer and expand Argument 2 Evidence 2 Akbar the Great revised the tax system in 1574. When Akbar did this he separated the revenue collection from the military administration. Who was in charge of this stuff, you might ask? Well each subban or governor was to maintain order in his region. While all of this was going on a separate tax collector collected these property taxes and sent them to the capital. Argument 2 Evidence 3 The Stuff in evidence 2 supports this. That created checks and balances. In regions they didn’t have much money so the people otherwise known as the individuals, they had no troops. But the troops had no money, the troops and the individuals were dependent on the main source†¦ The central government. What the central government did was they doled out fixed salaries to both the military and civilian personnel according to rank. Argument 3 Evidence 1 Akbar was a really religious guy. He went to a lot of religious festivals even when it wasn’t even his own religion. Akbar built a temple in this certain temple he hosted scholars, they came from different religions. Those religions included hindus, zoroastrians, christians, yogis, and muslims of other sects. He allowed the jesuits to confront a church at agra. Argument 3 evidence 2 Not everybody really thought that the Temple was a good idea. They thought that multiculturalism wasn’t a good idea. Akbar was called a â€Å"heretic†. Mid way 1579 a mazer or declaration was issued that granted Akbar The Great the authority to interpret religious law, superseding the authority of the mullahs. This became known as the infallibility decree, and it furthered akbar’s ability to create an interreligious and multi cultural state. Argument 3 evidence 3 In 1582 Akbar had established a new cult, a cult is (a relatively small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister.) But this wasn’t really a small group it was relatively large. The Din-i-ilahi, or otherwise known as ‘Divine faith†, that combined a bunch of elements of a bunch of different religions, that also included islam, hinduism and the zoroastrianism. What this faith did was it centered around Akbar The Great as a prophet or a spiritual leader. This faith Died when Akbar died.

The Enlightenment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The Enlightenment - Essay Example Scientific inventions and scientific discoveries made the hallmark of the enlightenment period. During the enlightenment period, it was known that science was the subject that could bring transformation in the world (Withers, 2007). The transformation that was desired was that which could make human life comfortable and easier on earth. During this period, more goods were produced at reduced cost, the stress of traveling, communicstion was reduced, and mobility was advanced hence the ease of communication and transit. Trade became advanced to different locations and human life ceased to be caged in geographical confines. During this period, there were many criticisms as well as the mushrooming of various organized groups. The church specifically was criticized during this period. The church was criticized by the liberals to have been be confining peoples’ reason to doctrinal thoughts. The thought of the enlightenment age proposed a more individualized system that does not cons trict people to a particular system of belief. Enlightenement period was a period of enquiry and people wanted logical reasons and proof behind phenomena. At this time, people did not want to set their belief on speculations because they were propounded by the church or by such authorities like Plato; they wanted scientific truth (Pancaldi, 2003). This though and desire led to the attack of absolutist and mercantilism. The think tanks of the enlightenment age refused to believe and accept some dominating dogmas. They could not any scientific proof to make them believe that the monarchs had superior status than other human beings. They could further not find scientific comprehension that there is a class of people set a part to dominate other human race because they were set a part to claim sovereignty over others. Thinkers of the enlightenment age wanted proof beyond any reasonable doubt that mercantilism was of economic benefit. 2. Compare and contrast the role played by Danton and Robespierre during the terror Danton and Robespierre, had great influence in shaping human history. Both of these personalities were leaders to be reckoned with. They had major differences in belief and though; a thing which later led to the spilt of political stances. Robespierre strongly believed that a nation would be a better republic only if it was governed on the principle and the foundations of philosophy, virtue, and justice. Danton on the other hand strongly advocated for a nation that is ruled in the basis of nobility, tradition, and domestic agreement and peace. Each of these figures of power supported the course that they believed was in the best interest of the people and none was willing to sacrifice their though to accommodate that of the other (Gascoigne, 1989). Their opposing belief became personal that they could not meet each other. They had strong hatred for each other until when revolution came; to them, an opportunity to destroy each other presented itself. Du ring the Terror period, Danton was elected in the Public Safety committee. While he was serving in the committee, Danton sought to reconcile the parties that were conflicting with the min intension of restoring peace and enforcing the rule of law to take effect in nations. Danton hoped to bring stability during the revolution by adopting a new constitution. The second committee of the public safety under the leadership of Robespierre stood upright with a declaration to continue terror until the
